Merced Systems is another company which is probably lesser known in the North American market for the moment compared to other product vendors. I first wrote about Merced when they acquired an incentive compensation management software company called Practique Software. Just like ZS Associates’ Javelin Suite, this “new” SPM vendor (with a solution called INCA) caught me by surprise because I hadn’t heard about it before. If you also wonder why the name may not sound familiar, it’s because Practique Software’s INCA solution was mostly used everywhere, except in North America. This is what Merced Systems is changing.
Practique has been deploying INCA in many enterprise environments in Europe for the past 12 years. So while they are a new player in North America they are certainly not new to the ICM market. Practique Associates is going to keep its brand name for the moment in Europe, but in North America its applications were already rebranded as Merced Incentive Management.
Merced Incentive Management is another web-based SPM solution with a very different approach than what I have seen with many other vendors. We will see how some of its features are quite innovative. The application is targeted towards enterprises with a large number of payees. Merced Incentive Management is an enterprise class incentive management application with multiple deployments of more than 10,000 and up to 100,000 payees with an excess of 1 million transactions per day. It is available both on-demand and on-premise, and it is also easy to switch between on-demand and on-premise if required.
In the next 2-3 posts I will focus on Merced Incentive Management, which is a great addition to other Merced offerings including applications facilitating organizational goals alignment, goal setting, performance reporting and coaching.

I forgot to mention; this is a reminder that you can see Merced Incentive Management in action on October 20th:

Hi, This is Rahul Sawant, I am working as an intern with a consulting company which is owned by my unlce. Currently we service a lot of HR staffing and payroll stuff(not in detail as what these softwares can do) for a lot of reputed well known IT companies in Mumbai and Pune.
We have heard a lot about these softwares mainly from your website, but havnt got a chance to see the actual product or how it works. Given that we have no knowledge (in detail)about how this industry works(in US) its difficult for us to gauage the details and idioms that you refer in your blogs , however if you have any flash files/avi(not sure which format it is in) which show the working of software… that would help us understand how things work at your end of the globe.
Thanks
Hi Rahul,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving this comment. It’s great to meet a fellow future consultant in this space.
I try not to use too much industry lingo and keep a layman’s approach to Sales Performance Management (SPM), but sometimes it is difficult not to fall in this pattern, and this is a good reminder to be careful. A while ago I posted a quick glossary for some of the terms that keep coming up: http://leapcomp.com/2008/06/sales-performance-management-glossary.html I think that you are right when you say that some of the lingo is probably different between North America and India.
Many of the solutions I mention on this blog have their clients primarily in the US, but it is surprising to see how many of them are based in Europe, or are truly global players. Practique Associates (purchased by Merced Systems) is based in the UK and Excentive which I have also reviewed here is based in France. Other companies such as Callidus, Varicent and Xactly have offices worldwide. Many of these companies even have ‘offshore’ delivery teams in India.
You will find several of the reviews under the ‘Quick Links’ menu. What’s very interesting in this space is that every incentive compensation solution has the same goal, and for this reason, the vendors fight a fierce battle to try to distinguish themselves for each other. Each vendor closely guards these ‘competitive advantages’ and are not thrilled at the idea that recordings of their solution could fall in the hands of their competition.
I would suggest to contact the SPM companies that you are curious about and maybe they would consider sharing additional information, screen captures or even perform a demo in real-time. Feel free to contact me at julien.dionne@opensymmetry.com if you have additional questions.
Regards,
Julien
