6.0 is light-years ahead of the previous release. I actually spoke with a sales rep earlier this year and he mentioned some of the future upgrades. VERY solid. Varicent is an industry leader.

I started to work in the US since August 2006 under TN visa. I just got my renewed TN last week & will be my 5 yrs on the same company. Somehow the immigration officer questioned why I've been working for 4-5 yrs in the US & it doesn't seem like a "temporary job?". I was told i should change my visa. I don't understand I thought you can renew your TN visa indefinitely. I'm thinking of quitting my job & apply for another company who's willing to sponsor me. What are my chances the next time I renew my TN.HELP!!

Hi Chris,

Very interesting story and yet another meaning! We might never know with certainty what spiff stands for, but I certainly like your story.

In the article I specified unknown in North America because I'm not sure if they are better known in France. However, I don't think that geography matters much. For example, Varicent is very well known in the space, but they are based in Canada.

I was told many years ago by a gentleman in his 70's that SPIFF stood for SPecial Incentive For the Floor. The story was that back in the very early days of the large department stores (Macy's was given specifically) that the perfume manufacturers would provide an incentive to saleswomen in women's perfume department to push their products for a given period of time (sometimes the products were new, or sometimes they needed a boost, so the manufacturers rep would show up to present the "SPIFF".) For example, if Sally would sell 10 bottles of XYZ perfume in a given period of time, the manufacturer of XYZ perfume would give her a free gift basket or perhaps cash as a reward for pushing their product specifically. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but in the sales world today, SPIFF is widely-used in the same context. Chris -Omaha, Nebraska

I am intrigued by Varicent's product offering but also a little nervous since about 80% of their executive management team are salespeople. Sales compensation is a difficult problem to solve so I imagine they must have a deep bench of rocket scientists hidden somewhere.
